Our 2022 Activities
The level of activity in our business ramped up significantly in 2022 and in response we decided to expand our support of a number of great causes. Our focus for the year was on supporting the Australian Red Cross, the Heart Foundation and Canteen: helping kids and their families with cancer. We continue to encourage others to be supportive of good causes that make a real difference to the community and those that need our help.

Our 2020 Activities
In 2020 it was a very challenging year and L5D were proud to support the Heart Foundation. Our final fund-raising activity for the year was helped by the support of local industry in Perth. Thanks to all those that got involved and showed their support.
Our 2019 Activities
In 2019 L5D were proud to support Cancer Research through the Cancer Council and the Spring Shitbox Rally. L5D's CEO Peter Damen took part in the Spring Shitbox Rally in its 10th year in October 2019 as part of Team Disco Dancing. It is the largest community led fundraiser for the Cancer Council in Australia. We were over the moon that we were able to donate more than $14,000 to this great cause. What is even better is that the total donations for the event from all 250 teams added up to a whopping $2.3 million, meaning that together we made a real difference!
The Challenge
Shitbox Rally was the adventure of a lifetime, challenging our participants and their car, worth less than $1,000 (!) to drive from Melbourne to Townsville, via Birdsville in 7 days for the 10th year anniversary rally, and all for a great cause.
The rally was not a race – it was a fun, colourful, unpredictable adventure with participants travelling at their own pace in smaller groups. Vehicles often broke down but “we never left anyone behind” and each night was spent camping beneath the stars and celebrating the day’s achievements. It all added up to an incredible opportunity to see Australia’s vast and beautiful countryside and make lifelong friends, many brought together after experiencing cancer themselves or seeing cancer impact family and friends.
Check out the video below for highlight's of the 2019 rally.

The Route and Chosen Vehicle...
In September the Tickford 'Disco Dancing' Fairmont was sent on its way to Melbourne on the train. Everything within reason that could be done to get it ready was done. New rugged wheels and tyres were installed. The radiator, springs, shock absorbers, battery, etc were all repaired or changed. Decorations went on including two large Disco Balls.
The last days before the Rally
We landed in Melbourne and the final touches were added to the vehicle. The Disco Balls made the perfect last minute addition! Here is the finished car in all its glory.
Updates from the road...
Day Three and the Tickford 'Disco Dancing' Fairmont and the team were still going strong. The event as a whole broke the $2 million mark prior to the start of the rally, which was fantastic to hear. The costumes came out at the rally launch and everyone involved and their contributions made it into a fantastic event.

Rally Completion
An incident outside Birdsville sadly led to the demise of the Fairmont, but ever the entrepreneurs, a replacement vehicle was found in the form of a white Hyundai Excel inside a local farmers barn in Windorah. It was covered in hay, full of rat droppings, home to a family of mice, and it wouldn't start. Nonetheless, with a jump start and a few tweaks here and there it was ready for a new lease of life. A transaction of $300 and the team were back on the road and crossed the finish line after the trip of a lifetime, in fine form. Even better, the car was auctioned off for charity in Townsville providing even more needed funds for a great cause. Congratulations Team Disco Dancing!
Fundraising
The rally total reached $2.35 million and we were incredibly proud to have helped contribute to this total. However it is not too late to donate to the Cancer Council. All funds raised will go directly to cancer research and the more funds raised, the more support we can give, so any donation you can give to them is greatly appreciated.
