We are very pleased to announce that once again we will be working with Austroads, this time over the next 2 years, to support road managers to obtain accurate insights into current usage of their road networks for a range of different vehicle types and active transport modes. This includes obtaining valueable insights on the utilisation of evolving data collection technologies such as advanced video capture and analysis and AI. This major project also has an objective to identify suitable solution(s) for bicycle and micromobility detection systems at traffic signalised intersections. The project involves the field testing and analysis of proof-of-concepts for vehicle and non-vehicle classifications and the development of an updated Australian and NZ road classification scheme and guidelines. It builds on a previous L5D project we conducted with Austroads to develop the Austroads-23 classifications scheme - see AP-R695-23 | Austroads for a freely downloadable copy of the report.
The way we use our road networks and the vehicles and people travelling on them are continually changing. The project will enable road managers to adopt a uniform, consistent and up to date approach to the way we classify users of our road systems across Australia and New Zealand. |
