It is hard to believe but last week marked the 4 year anniversary since we started Level5Design. Where does all the time go? Of course things ramped up rapidly and have been busy ever since. What has been terrific is the fantastic variety of projects we have been able to work on, the exceptional level of commitment from the team, and the support we have received from everyone. Thank you all!
We have been so busy lately that we haven't got around to posting all the fantastic things we have been doing but this one is certainly worth mentioning! Yesterday Drew Gaynor, one of L5D's Principal Consultants, delivered a conference presentation on the topic 'Best Practice Approaches to Road Freight and Communities' to an assembled local government and associated public works audience. This builds on best practice work we completed for Austroads in 2020 and that is reported here. The presentation was delivered at the IPWEA WA Annual Conference in Fremantle and formed part of a freight themed session that we organised including other presentations from the Freight and Logistics Council and the Shire of Plantagenet. Thanks go to Drew for all of his efforts (nice photo by the way)! A copy of his presentation is given here. We would like to finish by also acknowledging the good work of IPWEA (WA). We are a very keen supporter of the Association and what it does for the public works industry. Under a WasteSorted funding grant from the Waste Authority of WA, Level5Design has developed an on-site toolbox education program in Construction and Demolition (C&D) waste and resource recovery to facilitate better recovery, sorting, and transfer of C&D waste materials for reuse in regional roads and other local infrastructure.
The toolbox information specifically targets those in the C&D industry, contractors, product suppliers, builders, local government etc. and discusses the benefits from cost savings and reduced risk to environmental footprint reduction. Level5Design has recently delivered a number of sessions throughout the South West and the toolkit can be found here. Our Managing Director, Peter Damen gave an interview to the ABC to highlight the importance of the toolbox information. Click on the picture below to listen to the interview. The EMRC’s Circular Economy Masterclass was held from the 9th – 11th June 2021 at Optus Stadium! The event, hosted by EMRC in collaboration with Circular Economy Alliance Australia (CEAA) and global and national experts, was specifically tailored to inspire agency and local government leaders in WA to start the thought process, planning and actions towards a Circular Economy.
Our Managing Director, Peter Damen, was invited to talk about “Achieving a Circular Economy through Infrastructure Delivery”. He presented a new philosophy of Towards100 where we must ask ourselves ‘why not’ rather than why? The presentation can be viewed on our ‘Pavements, Assets, Innovative Materials, Waste Management and Sustainability’ page on our website. EMRC CEO Marcus Geisler and other guest speakers discussed topics ranging from water management, energy, waste and infrastructure, the differences they will make for the WA Circular Economy, and the importance of the Circular Economy in local government and business. The three day Masterclass was sponsored by the WA State Government through funding from the Waste Authority Waste Sorted Program. Level5Design's Managing Director, Peter Damen appeared as a guest speaker on day one of the Circular Economy Masterclass held yesterday, addressing the audience about achieving a Circular Economy through Infrastructure Delivery.
The Masterclass was specifically tailored to inspire agency and local government leaders to start the debate, thought process, planning and actions on the Circular Economy. Launched by Eastern Metropolitan Regional Council and with funding from the Waste Authority WasteSorted Program, the event helped people to be better informed, be connected and to understand the opportunities of a true circular economy system approach. A copy of the presentation Peter gave on the day can be found here. A copy of the program can be found here or click on the flyer image below. Come along and join us at this upcoming event in Perth on the 25th of February being hosted by the Institution of Civil Engineers. Level5design's Managing Director, Peter Damen, will take everyone on an exciting journey describing the future of transport including new and emerging technologies such as connected and automated vehicles. This is a free event with lots of good networking opportunities. More details are given below.
You can register for the event at https://www.trybooking.com/BOERY. We have been very pleased to support Austroads over the past year in the development of a groundbreaking piece of new work focused on developing guidelines for best practice strategies and supporting materials for state / territory and local government road managers to communicate the importance of road freight. This project was undertaken within the concept of a ‘social licence to operate’ which refers to the fostering and maintenance of community and stakeholder support for projects and operations. A communications strategy encompassing three levels of campaigns was developed. The campaign “toolkits” are the guidance on the necessary steps to develop a campaign and communication tools to inform and engage the community on the importance of freight.
More information on the project including a free to download copy of the report be found here or click on the report cover image given below. Over the last few years we have continued to offer the industry the latest knowledge in the field of traffic calming and local area traffic management.
Peter Damen, our Managing Director, is the foremost expert in this field in Australasia and has been involved in writing several editions of the national guidelines and delivering dozens of training workshops for government and industry. Earlier this month Peter delivered an LATM Masterclass in Perth, Western Australia to a group of experienced practitioners. Some of the delegates that that were in attendance are shown in the photo below. We had excellent representation from both local government and Main Roads with lots of interaction and many good insights shared. It was also great to hear how the State Government, via Main Roads, is investing in this space moving forward (thanks to Jerko Ostoic for providing a quick overview). Thanks go to all that attended. We were very pleased to deliver a webinar hosted by Austroads on a project that Level5design recently completed titled 'Best-Practice Approaches to Road Freight and Communities'. A major focus of the project was to develop guidelines for best-practice strategies and supporting materials for national, state/territory and local road managers to communicate the importance of freight to the community.
The project broke exciting new ground and in the webinar the Level5design team including Drew Gaynor, Christina Chin, Anthony Fisk and Jack Doyle presented the key findings. The webinar was held on Thursday, 26 November and the recording of the event can be found here Get a load of this new Austroads Research Report prepared by the Level5design team that was published earlier today on the 'Framework and Tools for Road Freight Access Decisions'.
More details including a copy of the report can be found at https://lnkd.in/eDRtehn (or click on the report cover image given below) including information on a webinar being held on the topic on Thursday 20 August from 1:00–2:00pm AEST. Join us - its free, and its a great way to learn more about the topic. |
